Oculus Rift sales in China have stopped, as we can see on Reddit. One of the buyers has complained that his order for the DK2 has been canceled, and an Oculus representative has confirmed that all orders in China have been suspended until further order. It seems that huge quantities had been ordered with the intention of reselling the DK2S, which is against Oculus’ policy for development kits.
According to the Oculus representative, his obligation is to make sure that resellers who seek to make a profit by selling the DK2S do not stock up, slowing down the global purchases of those who intend to get a unit for their particular use. The current product, as Oculus insists over and over again, is a development kit. Oculus advises legitimate buyers from China to wait for the commercial version, so it doesn’t give the feeling that the situation will be reversed in the short term.
