The 2D version of the short Pearl, created by Google Spotlight Stories and directed by Patrick Osborne, aspires to win an Oscar for best animated short.
Pearl it is a story created for virtual reality that we can watch on YouTube in 3D 360º or on HTC Vive, downloading the application in Viveport. In this case, the director, Patrick Osborne, he made a 2D version as a complement to the experience that is the one that has been nominated for the Oscars. A pity that it is not the virtual reality version, as happened with the endearing porcupine Henry that became the first short created for VR to get an Emmy.
Pearl’s story places us inside a car, in which we follow the path of a girl and her father as they cross the country chasing their dreams. A story about the gifts we offer and their power to bring love, and find grace in the most unlikely places. Patrick Osborne already has an Oscar for best animated short that he won in 2014 with the work Feast produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. We hope that in future editions of the Oscars, virtual reality will make its way into its categories and nominations.
