A move that will allow them to plan and accelerate the manufacturing process of the units. Shipments will take place once all backers have received your unit.
Just over a year after the launch of their Kickstarter campaign for their next generation viewers, Pimax has announced that it is now available for your pre-purchase the commercial version of the viewers 8K (789€), as well as the 5K Plus (619€) and from 5K Business Edition (879€). The prices indicated only include the viewfinder with the soft strap fastening system, i.e. they do not come with the motion controllers or the base stations. The business version of the 5K (the Business Edition) is priced higher due to the costs associated with licensing and product customization.
“There are two purposes for pre-purchase. First of all, many VR enthusiasts missed the Kickstarter campaign, but they are very interested and have followed us since last year. We want viewers to be available to them through this pre-purchase. Orders come from different countries and regions, and the delivery time for key components is usually around 3 months. We should start preparing from now on so that enthusiasts can get their hands on the second generation viewers sooner,” says Robin Weng, founder of Pimax.
The characteristics of the viewers are the same as we already knew, the 8K mounts LCD screens of 3840×2160 per eye at 80 Hz, the 5K Plus of 2560×1440 at 90 Hz and the 5K BE maintains the resolution of the previous one, but changes to OLED panels. All of them are compatible with SteamVR and Oculus, support the tracking of SteamVR 1.0 and 2.0, offers 200 degrees of FOV (170 ° in horizontal), have a weight of around 490 grams, and allow you to add all the accessories that announced the Pimax in the Kickstarter (when available), as modules wireless, tracking of hands (you can buy it in a pack with the viewer), odors, eye-tracking, and the restraint system “deluxe” with headphones.

In addition to the viewers, there is also a pack for each of them that includes the hand tracking module. This addition raises the price from 8K to€ 939, from 5K Plus to€ 769 and from 5K BE to€1,029. In turn, to ensure the best VR experience, they offer packages with either the RTX 2080Ti graphics card or the RTX 2080.
Pimax shares that pre-purchase will help them accelerate production and delivery of viewers to backers, allowing them to ” better plan resources and the production cycle, reduce delivery time and ask suppliers to prepare resources more efficiently.”
The consignment they will start once they have sent all the units of those who supported the crowdfunding, something that they expect to happen before the end of the year, and will be carried out in the order in which they receive the orders.
