The report concludes that the device has had an extremely positive reception with a score of 4.6 out of 5. “The exceptional reception that PSVR has received bodes well for Sony, and for its publisher and developer partners who have invested significant resources in what many people see as an uncertain technology. It is no exaggeration to say that many consumers seem to have fallen in love with the product, since the word ‘love’ is mentioned about 200 times and 73% of the reviews give it 5 stars,” comments David MacQueen, executive director of the research program.
Most people mentioned games and software as part of the success, as well as comfort and their ease of use. “It’s important that these factors are taken into account by other manufacturers if they want to replicate Sony’s success,” adds MacQueen. But not everything is positive, users have also been concerned mainly about the dizziness that many titles can cause, followed by the sharpness of the image and finally the cost. To date, PlayStation VR is the only desktop device for which sales figures are known with almost one million units sold.
