A new statistic by the Danish Energy Agency has just shown that every sixth Dane now has broadband in his home. This is, of course, a positive development, and it is especially during the last year that this trend has grown explosively. If you take a closer look at the figures from last year, they show that only about 260 000 had lightning-fast broadband, but by the end of this year this figure rose to over 400 000.

All in all, this results in a total increase of 55 percent, which is a very big growth. It should be mentioned, however, that there are, of course, still plenty of examples of places around the country where black holes remain when it comes to internet, and this is especially true when you go further into the countryside – but there is no doubt that this new statistic has generated lots of enthusiasm and lots of hope that the numbers will just continue in the right direction, so that in this way you will hopefully be able to overcome these problems and create lightning-fast broadband throughout the country in the near future.

Fibre networks are gaining ground in favour of wired networks

Most of the cities have Internet via either TDC’s copper cables or the classic TV antenna connectors, which are typically the source of Internet, if you do not use mobile broadband or (as few) are on satellite-based Internet.

However, there are rapid developments in the roll-out of fiber networks, and here it is typically the energy companies that roll out their fiber cables. It is just being opened up that these fiber networks can be used by the other providers too, and it is also going to boost things further.

The number can easily get even higher

Specifically, these figures mean that almost 17 percent of the Danish population has a lightning fast broadband connection, which means a connection of at least 100 megabits per second. However, it is a relatively modest figure, considering that almost 90 percent of Danes can actually choose a higher speed of their internet connection – if desired-and seen with these glasses, the figure is suddenly not so high anymore.

But it is of course entirely up to the Danish consumers themselves, how high a speed they want on their internet.

However, leading experts in the market believe that this figure will change significantly as more and more companies start using digital solutions, and in addition, the high consumption of popular streaming services, such as HBO Nordic and Netflix, will also play a role.

More data-lower prices

In addition to giving new figures ift. the Danish People’s access to lightning fast broadband, the statistics have also shown how our consumption of mobile data has also increased explosively. In fact, it turns out that mobile data traffic has increased by almost 70%, and it is estimated that it bl.a. this is due to our habits of watching tv series on our smartphones. In addition, it is also due in particular to the introduction of the 4G network, which means that, among other things, ita. is attractive to use mobile services with a particularly high data consumption.

Finally, the statistics also show how prices have fallen over the past ten years for mobile broadband and landline broadband. Specifically, this means that Danish consumers have free access to a wide range of services at an extremely advantageous price that most people will be able to afford. However, particular attention should be paid to the fact that the statistics have not taken into account the new rules on roaming, which have resulted in certain companies having to increase the prices of their products.
