The first batch of DK2 is already on the way

Cybereality, the Oculus VR Community Manager, has finally published the promised post informing about the status of the DK2 shipments. During the month of July, about 10,000 units will leave the factory and the first units should reach the developers the week of July 14. The rest will arrive shortly after, so some of those who expected it in July will receive it in August.

The first official batch of DK2 has left the factory and is already on its way to the distribution centers. We expect to ship around 10,000 DK2S from the factory in July, with just over half of units in distribution centers and on their way to the gates before the end of the month. The first units we hope will reach the developers in the week of July 14. The tracking numbers of all DK2S will be generated as soon as the shipments have been processed by a distribution center.

Please take a moment to confirm that your shipping address is up to date via the Oculus sales page. We will ship to the registered address, and if the information is incorrect it could cause shipping delays. In case your payment information is not valid, you will receive an email before the shipment with instructions on how to complete the payment.

We already have 45,000 DK2 pre-orders, which is incredibly exciting. That said, we are slightly behind in manufacturing and there is a high probability that some developers with estimated delivery in July will not be able to receive their DK2S until August. We have a team in China working on a continuous increase in production to get the queue moving as fast as we can.

Once your DK2S are ready to ship, you will receive an email with the tracking number so that you can see the estimated delivery date. Please do not contact Oculus support asking for estimated shipping dates, as we cannot know the status of your shipment until a tracking number has been generated. We’ll keep posting status updates, so everyone can keep up with what’s going on behind the scenes. Thanks again for your continued support, and we hope you are all excited to start working with the DK2.

The sentence in the first paragraph can be interpreted as meaning that a total of 10,000 units will leave the factory during the month of July, but only about half are expected to reach their destination before the end of the month, which would give us a figure of about 5000-6000 DK2 delivered to their owners during the month of July. It is not very good news if so, since in the first 36 hours apparently about 12,000 DK2 were sold. Maybe even some of us who ordered it on the first day will have to wait until August if so. We’ll see what happens and fingers crossed.
