Interested developers can start adding Rift support to their titles right now.
HTC it has announced that games and apps hosted in its content store Viveport they already have the option for developers to add support for Oculus Rift. Therefore, Rift owners will be able to enjoy those compatible contents from the next 4 september, which will be when this update is available to the public. This also means that they will be able to enjoy the store subscription service (there is a 14-day free trial), with which we have access to 5 games each month.
“By adding support for Oculus Rift, we’re doubling the potential user base for Viveport developers,” he says Rikard Steiber, president of Viveport. “Viveport continues to offer the most options for developers to monetize their VR content. From subscriptions and purchases on Viveport, to availability on Amazon and Viveport Arcade. We will continue to expand the platform, on behalf of the developers, to reach the largest possible global audience.”
Taking into account the words of the president of Viveport, it is possible that soon support for Windows MR will also arrive, since they intend to continue expanding the platform to reach more audiences.
All those interested developers can start right now to configure their titles, modifying the “Compatible Viewers” field that we will find in the “Viveport Listing” tab of the Developer Console and adding a production version in the “Submit”tab. As they claim, existing titles that have hardware support for Rift through OpenVR should be ready for this update.
Viveport currently has nearly 500 content available through its subscription service.
