Flashlight, which accesses the image of the cameras, is already available in the latest preliminary versions of Windows 10.
The latest two versions of Windows 10 of the Insider testing program introduce Mixed Reality Flashlight, a new feature for the platform Windows Mixed Reality with which we will be able to see what happens in the real world without having to physically remove the viewer, that is, we will have a function similar to that offered by HTC Vive with SteamVR.
This new option can be activated via the start menu, a button or a voice command. Internally what it does is it opens a low latency connection that transfers the image captured by the front cameras, and is displayed within the virtual world as a portal that we move with the controller.
This is the first time that we really see the device mix both realities, even if it is for the moment simply to superimpose an image on the virtual world. Microsoft has not specified whether developers will be able to access cameras from now on to create mixed reality experiences.
