A few years ago, Elon Musk claimed that his Tesla cars could float so well that they could even function as boats. Today, due to an accident, we found out that although they do float, they are definitely not marine vehicles, because they even catch fire underwater.
How does a Tesla catch fire underwater?
A few days ago a video of a Tesla Model X sinking into a river or a lake went viral. In the video, we see how only the roof of the car remains on the surface while the rest is sunk, although it is true that it is suspended and not sinking more and more. The funny thing about the matter is that flames are coming out of the vehicle, something obviously very strange considering that it is, you know… under the water.
Here you can see the curious event:
According to the explanation, the Tesla was trying to tow a boat, but lost control and went down the ramp into the river. Already inside the river, probably because of all the short circuits that started to happen, the car started to catch fire, offering that curious view. Fortunately, the fire station responded quickly to the call and rushed to the scene, where no injuries or people trapped inside the car were reported. Although it is likely that this one was a total loss.
Will the Cybertruck be aquatic?
Considering what just happened, it’s worth remembering that Elon Musk said a few months ago that the Cybetruck could also “briefly” serve as a boat, as it could cross rivers or lakes as long as the water is calm. However, considering that he said something similar about the Model S and we’ve already seen how it can end, perhaps it’s best to ignore him.
