The Chinese manufacturer Rokid has introduced new AR glasses from the Vision product line: The Rokid Vision 2 has a fresh hardware design and new software and is sold to companies and end users.
AR-glasses are positioned as an addition to smartphones, laptops and tablets. The official trailer (see below) shows the cable connection between the Rokid Vision 2 and similar devices. It is quite possible that the AR glasses require a player and they are connected to it via a USB-C cable. Vision 2 is compatible with 4G and 5G.
AR glasses are lightweight and foldable, just like regular ones. Like the Magic Leap One and Hololens, they have a built-in waveguide display. According to the company, the light transmission is 85 percent, and the field of view is 40 degrees. Two speakers provide stereo sound. AR-glasses must be controlled by voice.
Rokid Vision: An ongoing experiment
Rokid Vision 2 appears with specially designed applications and demos that are designed for spatial interaction:
- Fantasy world: an immersive space surrounding the user, with which you can interact with voice, gestures and head control.
- Holographic Cinema: An IMAX cinema that allows you to play panoramic videos in 2D, 3D and 360 degrees.
- Virtual City: Thanks to 6DoF tracking, users can freely move around the virtual space. According to Rokid, space tracking has become possible with a single RGB camera.
The AR glasses run on its own Rokid XR operating system, which, among others, supports Qualcomm, Amlogic and HiSilcon chips. The SXR SDK gives developers access to all the new features of AR glasses.
The goal of Rokid is to develop natural interfaces for larger markets. Therefore, the company wants to reach not only the industry, but also end users, but recognizes that Vision 2 is not yet the end result of these efforts.
“Rokid is continuing research, whether in the form of AR glasses or some other future form, and is trying to develop a product that is more acceptable to the public,” the company said in a statement.
The price and launch date of Rokid Vision 2 on the market are still unknown.
