On behalf of Dr. Eckhardt + Partner, Techconsult (self – written: techconsult) interviewed a total of 201 IT and software decision-makers from German companies about the use and advantages of individual software solutions. Almost three quarters therefore see the use of individual software as a success-driving factor.
53 Percent of respondents had already decided to develop individual software. The decisive reasons for this are that standardized industry solutions do not or only partially reflect necessary functionalities (43 percent) or are insufficiently scalable (36 percent) and thus do not meet the sometimes high requirements.
According to Techconsult, strategic considerations play a major role in software procurement: For 77 percent of IT managers, the use of individual software serves as an instrument for obtaining competitive advantages over competitors. 74 Percent of IT managers said that they would not be as successful with pure standard solutions as they are today.
In the opinion of the respondents, an optimization of the company processes could in particular provide solutions tailored to individual workflows. According to Techconsult, 40 percent of IT managers look more at the quality and accuracy of the software than at the possible costs associated with the development of customized solutions.
Nevertheless, cost aspects are not insignificant in the end: For 41 percent of IT managers, they are a reason why only about one in five companies (22 percent) develop their individual software completely themselves. Other reasons include a lack of internal resources such as personnel or know-how (50 percent).
