Vortex VR has been ahead of Samsung and Oculus when it comes to presenting this mobile case (although we have published the news a day later). VRTX One, which can already be purchased for a price of $99, is designed for the LG G3, a smartphone with a 5.5″ screen and 2560×1440 pixels resolution.
Unlike Samsung, the Vortex VR case does not incorporate any sensor, button or touchpad, which will make use of the phone’s accelerometer and will also have a more adjusted price, and although the price of Gear VR has not been revealed, we assume that it will be higher than the $99 of the VRTX One. What it does clearly outperform Samsung is in availability, since Gear VR can be purchased online today.
For now there is not too much information, just the measurements of the device (40x80x40) and the weight of around 500 grams, which seems quite high to us and we do not rule out that it includes the packaging. Just as it is Oculus who is behind Gear VR, it is the Gameface Labs technology that is hidden inside the VRTX One, at least as far as software is concerned. This company has already presented several prototypes of a fully autonomous HMD based on Android, but like Oculus, it seems that it has decided that its first commercial device is a mobile case.
In principle we have no news that the software has to be specific for this device, so we understand that, in addition to the Gameface Labs software, it will work with any of the SBS demos and 3D games that exist on Android, such as those made with the Durovis SDK.
